Volunteers needed for Penn Fest waterstop fundraiser on Sunday
Penn Fest offers other fun activities. Check out what's going on before and after the 5k. http://www.penncentralofrichfield.com/
It's time to get ready for the greatest fundraiser of the season. The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon is Sunday, October 5th!
We will once again man the mile 9 fluid station, a great location close to home and early in the race. Plan on working 7 to 11 a.m. to fill water glasses and pass them to runners (including Coach Marty) as they go by.
This fundraiser is a great opportunity for to see runners of all levels running towards their own dream or goal. It is also a wonderful team building opportunity for the Richfield Cross Country runners and their families. (Siblings, parents and grandparents are welcome!) This has been a long standing fundraiser for Richfield CC.
Please register online prior to the event so we can ensure we are filling all of the volunteer slots available. We have 45 slots saved for our group. (All Cross Country runners are expected to participate.) We are compensated for each volunteer that shows up and we would love to know ASAP how many people we can count on from Richfield.
Volunteer Registration Link: http://twincitiesinmotion.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?start_over&id=6455 You will need to register each person participating individually with their own e-mail address. An email will be sent to the group with our password. Call Hallie Noeske (Robert's mom) at 612-810-6097 or email her.
Kelli Bartholomew the volunteer coordinator from TCM says: "Thank so much, looking forward to working with you guys again!"
Clear your schedules - mandatory practices begin Monday, Aug. 11
The official Cross Country season begins on Monday, Aug. 11 and practices are now mandatory. Coach Marty urges all runners to arrange their work schedules, dentist and doctor appointments and all other commitments now so that they are free for practices, set for 3 to 4:30 p.m. If you must miss practice, you must talk to Coach Marty "live" to be excused. (If you get voice mail, leave a time when you can be reached by phone.)
Spartan Spirit Alumni Run race results
The Spartan Spirit Alumni Run made history this year by running on the first Richfield High School course, which looped through Augsburg Park and RHS grounds. The team's traditional race to kick off the cross country season has previously been held at Veterans Park, but with the support of the City of Richfield's Park and Rec Department, Richfield now has a home course. Alumni and community runners showed up in force to join the current Spartan team on the two-mile course.
Top alumni finishers were: Obsa Ali for the men and Hannah Olson for the women. Top current runner finishers were: Spencer Bergen for the men and Nicole Mattson for the women. Complete race results are on the Alumni Race Results tab to the left.
Thank you to Spartan Spirit volunteers!
A big thank you to those who helped create the first cross country course at Augsburg Park! They mowed, clipped, raked and smoothed the way for runners competing in the Spartan Spirit Alumni Run on Saturday, Aug. 16: Will and Dan Bednar; Spencer and Kenton Bergen; Nicole, Loren and Teresa Mattson; Evan, Emma and Steve Matson; Marty Huberty and Aria DeVries.
Thank you to the team parents who provided treats and beverages and helped organize the Spartan Spirit Alumni Run: Kim and Dan Bednar, Kenton and Mary Bergen, and Loren and Teresa Mattson. A big shout out to Coach Marty and Davanni's for providing gift cards for winners. Much appreciation to Rick and Deanne Beaudet, who biked at the front and back of the runners and provided guidance. Thanks to the City of Richfield Park and Rec Department for its support of the course!
Sign up for pasta dinner and meet treats
Pasta dinners the night before race days have become a great tradition that has formed lifelong friendships and the support of a running community long after graduation. Help support our runners by hosting a pasta dinner and/or bringing bagels to races. Multiple families can divide the duties and the cost by joining together for a dinner.
To sign up, please check out the schedule for openings (see the Spaghetti Dinners & Meet Treat/Bagels tab at the left.) Email parent volunteer Marci Matson with the date you'd like to host or help out.

DECA will also show off our team during the month, by posting our photos and news! Thank you, DECA!

Good turnout for the 2014 Kick-off Picnic
Despite a one-day delay due to bad weather, a good crowd turned out for the Cross Country Kick-off Picnic on June 17. Thank you to the captains' parents who grilled and provide the main meal and to the other parents for contributing yummy desserts and healthy fruit. While the team went for their inaugural run, Coach Marty Huberty informed the parents of a few changes this season. (See updates below.)
A warm welcome to new runners!
Five new runners joined the team at the kick-off picnic. New runners are invited to join anytime this summer. For more information, contact Coach Marty Huberty at 952.994.7262 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Please join our Facebook group Richfield Cross Country for updates and our email list by emailing Communications Coordinator Marci Matson.
Davanni's Fundraiser set for Oct. 2
The CC fundraiser at Richfield Davanni's is already set, strategically scheduled for the big Vikings-Packer game on Thursday, Oct. 2. Eat pizza, support your Spartan runners and watch the Purple defeat the Pack. (Some ill-informed folks among us think the Cheeseheads will win. Bring your fellow fans and cheer on your team.) The fundraiser will be held the night before the Shakopee invitational in place of a pasta dinner.
