SPARTAN SPIRIT ALUMNI RUN - We kick off the race season with this great tradition that brings back both long ago and recent graduates to race with the current team and the great "family" of cross country runners. The course starts and ends between the RHS baseball field and track and goes through Augsburg Park. Family members, young and old, and any other friends are welcome to join the race. Registration is not required and the event is free. Whether you're a runner or not, please join us to cheer on the runners. Festivities include bagels, coffee and juice, and an opportunity to catch up with old friends. We will also have sign-up sheets for meet treats and pasta dinners, as well as learn more about the season ahead. Please spread the word to former team mates and to anyone else who might want to participate.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to prep the course for the Spartan Spirit run. Mow, rake or trim branches. Meet at 8 AM at the Augsburg Park warming house parking lot on 72rd Street (near Wentworth) on Saturday, Aug. 15.
SCHEDULE: The schedule is taking shape and includes a return to Powderhorn Park for the Holy Angels Invitational on Aug. 29.
FUNDRAISERS. Cross Country has the best fundraisers -- all you need to do is go out to eat as a family and get your friends and neighbors to join you! Potbelly's and Davanni's gives us proceeds raised during CC nights. POTBELLY's is set for Wednesday, Sept 9. DAVANNI's is TUESDAY, OCT. 20. Mark your calendars! This is a fun night socializing with other cross country families.
APPAREL - Each year the team orders apparel (T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweat pants) with a cross country slogan and Richfield logo. If you have a suggestion for a slogan or art, please reply with your idea. Orders are optional. Look for more info soon!
PENN FEST: The Cross Country team volunteers for the annual Penn Fest race, which will be on Sunday, Sept. 20 this year. Plan on helping at noon with the water stop. The day includes all sorts of fun community activities along Penn Avenue between Highway 62 and about 68th Street. Come cheer on Coach Marty and Coach Jessica as they compete in the race.
COMMUNICATIONS - We send out emails to the team and parents, post regularly to Facebook and update information on our website. If you hear from someone who did not get an email, please have them email Marci Matson, Parent Volunter. CC also communicates via its Facebook page group. Please contact Coach Marty Huberty at or 952-944-7262 if you have any questions or concerns.
CONGRATS to the runners, parents and siblings who competed in the optional URBAN WILDLAND RACE for Wood Lake Nature Center! Some great times were posted for the first 5K of the season.

Spartan Spirit Alumni Run race results
The Spartan Spirit Alumni Run made history this year by running on the first Richfield High School course, which looped through Augsburg Park and RHS grounds. The team's traditional race to kick off the cross country season has previously been held at Veterans Park, but with the support of the City of Richfield's Park and Rec Department, Richfield now has a home course. Alumni and community runners showed up in force to join the current Spartan team on the two-mile course.
Top alumni finishers were: Obsa Ali for the men and Hannah Olson for the women. Top current runner finishers were: Spencer Bergen for the men and Nicole Mattson for the women. Complete race results are on the Alumni Race Results tab to the left.

A big shout out to Coach Marty and Davanni's for providing gift cards for winners. Much appreciation to Rick and Deanne Beaudet, who biked at the front and back of the runners and provided guidance. Thanks to the City of Richfield Park and Rec Department for its support of the course!
